Lineapelle 97

The 97th edition of Lineapelle in Milan Rho closes, with a positive balance in the turnout of Italian buyers, and with a significant drop in foreign buyers. Between 2 and 4 October at the leading trade fair in Italy for fashion raw materials, more than 19 thousand people attended, from more than 107 countries in the world.
Positive notes were recorded by the increase in turnout from the United States and China; precisely the countries that in the past few semesters had recorded a sharp decline in imports, and which now leave good hope.

The market difficulties, especially for the leather sector (which represents more or less half of the exhibition space at Fiera Milano, with three out of six pavilions occupied by the tanneries), are obvious. In the first half of the year, Unic (an association of Italian tanneries) recorded a drop of 7.3% in value and almost 12% in volume compared to 2018, linked to the difficulties of footwear and the reversal of the automotive trend after years of strong growth.
Luxury leather goods continue to drive the sector and this has allowed Italian leather to withstand the impact better than its competitors and in particular better than the economic sector, which has fallen even due to lower raw material prices even compared to the peaks of the crisis of 2008-09.

“Lineapelle 97 confirmed, as evidenced by its exhibitors, that even today we can look to the future with confidence, as long as we have clear ideas, defined programs and a very concrete vision”, commented the organization of the event.
Nonetheless, Lineapelle has confirmed its centrality of internationality and Italy’s role in the international context of the sector. “The reflection of foreign visiting companies – the organization states in a note – makes us reflect the reassuring data on the presence of those nationals confirming how Italy is now the international reference manufacturing hub for brands, brands and startups “.
